Homeword

Privacy, in plain English

What we collect

For the organizer: name, email, password (stored as a hash — we can't read it), and mobile number. For family members: first name, an optional relation label ("Mum"), and mobile number. Optionally: a family safe word and emergency contact numbers you choose to add. That's it — no dates of birth, no addresses, no payment details.

How it's protected

Phone numbers and safe words are protected with industry-standard encryption — even if our database were stolen, they couldn't be read. All traffic uses HTTPS. The message log stores masked numbers only. Passwords are hashed, never stored. Optional two-factor sign-in protects the organizer account, and every account action appears in your family's activity log.

What we do with it

One thing: run verification checks for your family. We send texts and notifications you or your family trigger. We do not sell data, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything beyond operating the service. Text messages are delivered via Twilio, our SMS provider, which processes phone numbers and message content for delivery.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can request a copy of your data or ask for it to be deleted at any time: email hello@homeword.uk. Removing a family member deletes their details and disables their link immediately. Deleting your account removes your family's data entirely.
